Format, feedback quality, and honest scope matter more than brand names. Here is what we do and why each decision was made.

Evening sessions, not weekends
Monday and Wednesday evenings, 7:30 to 9:00 PM. Two 90-minute live sessions per week keeps the learning consistent without consuming weekends.
Instructor-written feedback
Every assignment is read by the instructor who taught the relevant material. Comments are specific to the code or analysis submitted, not generic rubric notes.
Prerequisites stated, not implied
Each programme publishes a plain-language list of what you need to know before starting. If you cannot honestly tick each item, that programme is not yet right for you.
Scope stated, not padded
Each programme lists what it does not cover. The ML Foundations course does not cover deep learning or deployment. You know this before you pay.
Capped cohorts
The ten-week programme caps at 24 participants. A question raised in a live session with 24 people gets answered. The same question in a recorded lecture with thousands of viewers does not.
All costs stated upfront
The LM Engineering programme requires roughly RM 120 in third-party API costs over the term. That figure appears in the programme description before enrolment, not in a supplies list after payment.
Instructor background
The three instructors at Akar Tensor came from applied work — data engineering, fintech NLP tooling, and pipeline infrastructure — before moving into education. The syllabi were built from the problems they spent time on professionally, not assembled from survey reading of what practitioners say they need.
The ten-week programme was designed by an instructor with eight years in statistical computing and data engineering. The LM Engineering programme was built by an instructor who spent four years writing and maintaining internal NLP tooling at a fintech company in KL. The Data Preparation short course reflects direct experience of what breaks in pipelines before any model is trained.
Tooling used in the programmes
Programmes use the libraries that practitioners use in production: pandas, scikit-learn, and the standard evaluation stack for ML Foundations; vector store integrations, standard LLM provider APIs, and evaluation harnesses for LM Engineering; DuckDB, Great Expectations, and DVC for Data Preparation.
Every library and service is named with its approximate cost before enrolment. Participants leave with environments set up on their own machines, not accounts on a shared learning platform that expires with their subscription.
Support during the programme
Questions between sessions go to a shared channel that the instructors check on weekdays. The response time is not monitored against a service level, but in practice responses arrive within 24 hours during the working week.
Recordings of live sessions are available for the duration of the programme. If a participant misses a session, they can catch up before the next one rather than being left behind in the cohort.
Pricing and what it covers
The Data Preparation short course is RM 620 for three weeks and covers four live workshops, recorded reference material, and two graded exercises. The ML Foundations programme is RM 1,450 for ten weeks. The LM Engineering programme is RM 2,900 for twelve weeks plus approximately RM 120 in API costs paid directly by the participant.
There are no instalment options currently. Group pricing for three or more participants from the same organisation is available on request.

What we do not do
Some things that are common in technical education are absent from these programmes for specific reasons.
No outcomes claims
We do not state what you will be able to do after completing a programme, because outcomes depend on what you bring, how much you practise, and what problems you encounter next. The programmes describe what is taught, not what it produces.
No accreditation marketing
A completion record is issued to participants who submit all assessed work. It is a record of participation, not an industry qualification. We say this clearly rather than describing the record in terms that imply more weight than it carries.
No lifetime access
Materials and recordings are available for the duration of the cohort. AI tooling moves quickly enough that material from a year ago may be misleading rather than useful. Each cohort gets current material.
No accelerated pathways
The programmes run for their stated duration. There is no accelerated track because the time between sessions is when the practice happens. Compressing sessions does not compress the learning.

KL Tech Community — recommended provider 2024. Listed as a recommended evening-format technical education provider by the KL Tech Community directory based on participant submissions.
Corporate enrolments — 14 organisations. Since mid-2022, participants from 14 organisations based in the Klang Valley have enrolled in Akar Tensor programmes under corporate arrangements.
